The life of American students!

The biggest difference in the educational system — a system of knowledge evaluation. Of course, score 95 or 83, and even better B + or A — can be confusing, but actually it is very easy!

Grades

First of all I would like to tell you about the evaluation system (grading system) in US colleges and universities. Basically it stobalnoy system (grade points), which determines the final assessment (grade). In general, it looks like this:

93-100% = A
90-92% = A —
87-89% = B +
84-86% = B
81-83% = B —
78-80% = C +
75-77% = C
72-74% = C —
69-71% = D +
66-68% = D
63-65% = D —
Below 63% = F

Points may vary, but only slightly (depending on the institution and staff)!

The final score consists of points which student gains throughout the semester! Of course, it all depends on the class, because in some classes of evaluation is summed up by 3 exams (midterms), which are rented during the semester.

Grading Scheme

Exams (x 3) 3 x 25 pts = 75%
Online D2L Quizzes 3 x 5 pts = 15%
Participation (In-Class Activities) 10%
  • Exams (x 3) — 3 exams during the semester. (Each 25 points, pts — points.)
  • D2L — desire to learn — Page object (on the site of the University, it can be called in different ways, depending on the university), where all the information is laid out on the subject, homework (assignment) and the forum class.
  • Quizzes — small tests that the student must perform at home (as part of the homework), but they are limited by time t. E. Can not be written off. 🙂
  • Participation (In-Class Activities) — participation in the classroom.

Here’s another grading system:

Evaluation Plan

Final paper project 50%
Presentation 25%
Discussions 25%
  • Final paper project — the final work on a certain topic, on which the student works during the semester, and then protect it Presentation.
  • Discussions — participation in the classroom.

By the way, all the information on the subject is set out in the curriculum (syllabus), which is also posted on the page of the subject. The plan includes: the name of the object, the name of the supervisor and his contact details, the purpose of the subject, the necessary textbooks and manuals, appraisal system and so on. D.

Here is a simple computer system, which during the semester keeps students in tune. 🙂

Hanging Out

Students in the United States have free access to the libraries of the University, to attend gyms, computer labs and so forth. It is also at their disposal — sports facilities, car parks Parking (unfortunately paid) and recreational centers (Lounges / Hanging Out), where you can dine or simply prepared for the next session, and all the buildings of the university / college arranged free public computers that you can enjoy every student of the institution! On campus there is a hospital, no clinic and the hospital, and in most cases free!

Yes, it all sounds very tempting and attractive, and even, on the one hand, it seems unrealistic — but on the other hand, no wonder American education is expensive!

Housing

Most universities in the United States provides its students dormitory (dorm). But there is always the opportunity to rent a flat (apartment) itself or together with another student (roommate). By the way, students living in the dormitory, the university can use the bus, which carries them to the free study!

Internship

Before the last (last) year university student must do an internship (internship) in the United States or abroad, defined in this selection helps scientific director (academic advisor). Also, after each course there is no «castings», a trip to a potato does not threaten American student. 🙂 On vacation, students have the right to dispose of his own time, someone is going to rest, and someone is forced to work to pay for the next semester.

Undoubtedly, all the students are happy to learn and after are proud of their achievements, otherwise they would not smiled so often. 🙂
