English perfectly

Agree, we all want to know anything perfectly. It does not matter whether it’s language or any other field of knowledge. The word «perfection» is in us some awe (not afraid of the word) and the worship of something perfect. This upper limit of what we strive for. And mind you, the phrase «I have (someone) know it perfectly,» we meet every now and where necessary and not necessary. If this view, most of the world believes that mastered from A to any area of knowledge. Or at least, people have high self-esteem and self-esteem about their abilities. No, I’m not in any way seek to undermine someone’s confidence or challenge anyone’s knowledge. But let’s think about it, that in general is «perfection»?

In order not to think for a long time, use the help of a glossary. Thus, we have:

Perfection:

  1. Holistic completeness and comprehensive coverage of the subject.
  2. The highest degree of any positive qualities.

In other words, the «perfection» — this is something finished, complete, without having to continue, because the limit is reached. But wait, and who can say that in English and in any other, there is a limit that can be achieved? Who can indicate the brink of passing that, we can say that we know everything, everything, and once again all in the English language?

Is it possible to know English perfectly?

This question is the title section, always brings a smile to my lips. Because for me it is absolutely meaningless. Although the answer to it, I can firmly — no, I do not know English perfectly. And I will not know it perfectly ever. A person can ask another question: Who knows English perfectly? The answer is simple and banal — nobody. But what about the native speakers, it is their mother tongue?

Well, for native English is the native language. So what? For us, Russian (Ukrainian, etc.) is also native, but hardly anyone of us would dare to say that he knows perfectly, even their mother tongue. Well, not the same people we all linguists. And I can not say that all of our people correctly, rather the contrary. We are always able to properly speak and write in Russian? No. Sometimes the word «acceptable» and «ingredient» can generally enter into a stupor. If we are talking about spelling. And it does not affect the question of the correct pronunciation of the words of the native language. So if we do not know perfectly the native language, we can say that we know English perfectly? After all, even for native speakers it is just a tool of communication. It is unlikely that each of them has philological education.

Of course, in some areas of knowledge of native speakers is much deeper than a man, to learn English. But the word «perfection» has nothing to do with it. There is a certain gradation levels of language, in which you need to climb the ladder as the gradually improving their skills. And, of course, if you persevere, life will come a point when you can say, «Yes, I know very well English, I perfectly understand, understand all the intricacies of grammar and speaks the language.» But as a rule, this effect can be achieved only by long years of hard work, I would say decades. But will it be perfect?

As we know, in English the word «perfection» is as follows perfection. Accordingly, in English we call perfection perfect English. But pay attention! Many English questionnaires in the «knowledge of English,» you offer these options: English basic, English fair, English good, English fluent. No word perfect! The most highly regarded of English level fluent — fluent English. In other words, you understand and great to speak the language, do not hesitate. Therefore, you can easily communicate on it. That’s it for this we should strive, and not to the phrase «I know the English language perfectly.»

Yet, there is a limit to our knowledge of English? Alas, sadly it or not, there is no limit and will not be. You can never say that «yes, I know.» What is the reason? And the answer is: the English language — the language alive — and he does not cease to evolve ever. Until a few years will be learning one language will be something new, what you have not heard, and so on to infinity. That Latin — a dead language, and so, probably, it is possible to learn everything, because nothing new will appear. And there still is not perfect, because the work of spoken Latin, you will not succeed. Not with someone simply no media. Therefore, to reach perfection will come.

And English is constantly changing. Of course, least of all the changes taking place in the grammar, but it’s a moot point. It has a tendency to simplify everything, that we already have. But the completion of the English vocabulary is not stopped. After a few decades ago, and the words «computer» was not in English because of the lack of such an electronic machine. And now the area of information technology — is a powerful tool for creating new words in English, but it is not the only source.

Just look at this list: pseudoside (psevdostorona), meme (a concept rapidly spreading on the Internet), meh (yah, lack of interest and enthusiasm), speed-dating (Quick Start), bromance (male friendship), deskfast ( Breakfast in the workplace), drunkthron (the length of time for which absorbed a large amount of alcoholic beverages), bigoted (fanatical), etc. You know all these words, or met them in the speech? After a few years ago they were not in English. Now they are in the dictionary (not each), so you can learn their translation.

And there is a word that has not translated into our language and are not included in the English-Russian dictionaries. And they have to understand the importance of the English definition. For example, the adjective mononymous (a person who is mononymous uses only one name), the adjective quintastic (a person who is aged fifty or more and is still attractive and successful, especially someone famous), noun tweetheart (a user of the Twitter short messaging service who is liked and admired by other users), noun fauxmance (a fake romance usually for the benefit of the media or family and friends.) etc.
